📚Book Review: The Ghost Files

BABE'S BOOK REVIEW OF: "THE GHOST FILES" BY APRYL BAKER

📚📚 Glitter Loving - Book Slinging Gal's Book Review:

THE GHOST FILES

I ain’t no dusty librarian, darlin’—I’m the gal who’ll tell ya if a book’s a two-dollar pistol or not worth the ammo.

I’m the gal who can bale hay at sunrise and sip champagne at sundown without breakin’ a nail. I read ‘em fast, review ‘em sassy, and tell ya straight whether a story’s hotter than a bonfire in August or flatter than yesterday’s Dr Pepper. Been dustin off some covers and diving back into the reviews and have some treats for ya! Here is one that was on my mom’s kindle. It’s a real good one! I love those “stay 20 something forever books that include first loves, a few fairies, a few vampires here and there and all kinds off sass. Usually kept those in my secret stash category, however…. since I saw that my mom had plenty of them in her collection, I’m sharing with pride now, without shame to boot!

Around here, my book reviews come dressed up with lipstick, rhinestone shine, and a whole lotta Southern twang. They’re a cocktail of sass, sparkle, and honest-to-goodness truth—served with a wink and maybe a little side-eye.
So pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of sweet tea (or somethin’ a little stronger if the clock’s struck five), and settle in.

Y'all, listen up. We're fixin' to talk about a book that's got more sass than a rodeo clown and more heart than a big ol' Texas sky. This here's the first book in a whole series, so if you like it, you're in for a real treat.

Now, bless her heart, the main character, Mattie Hathaway, didn't have it easy. She grew up in foster care, and if that ain't tough enough, she can see dead people. She first laid eyes on a ghost when she was just a little tyke, right when her own mama was at her lowest. It's a heavy burden, don't you know, but this girl is as tough as a two-dollar steak.

She tries her best to keep her ghost-seein' a secret, but when she's sixteen, her foster sister goes missing. And anyone who knows anything knows that foster siblings, they're family, pure and simple. They stick together tighter than fresh-tilled Texas clay. So Mattie, bless her heart, gets to work. She's full steam ahead, fixin' to find her sister and bring her home.

This is where Officer Dan comes in, and y'all, get ready. The spark between him and Mattie is just the cutest thing. Sometimes it's a brother-sister thing, but sometimes it's got a little somethin' extra. If you're an old hand like me, you'll be sittin' there reminiscin' about your first crush. If you're still a young'un, well, you just soak it all up, 'cause those first little sparks are pure magic.

Okay, back to the book, bless its soul! With Officer Dan by her side, Mattie starts to peel back the layers on this whole mess. Not just about her sister, but a whole slew of other kids who have disappeared into thin air. I'm tellin' you what, this book will keep you guessing all the way to the very last page. It's a real page-turner, and that's the gospel truth.

About the Author: Apryl Baker is a West Virginia gal livin' in North Carolina, and I tell ya, she's a keeper. She's been readin' and writin' since she was a little girl, makin' up stories with her friends as the stars. Ain't that just the sweetest thing? It's a real fine thing to see someone turn a childhood passion into a big ol' career. Her stories are so imaginative, I just get lost in 'em.

And if you want to keep up with her, she's all over the place! You can sign up for her newsletter at aprylbaker.com, and there's no shortage of places to follow this gal:

🌸Mom's Journals, entry #1

My dad recently found two journals that belonged to my mother and gifted them to me—what a treasure!  S he often wrote positive messages and quotes on index cards and placed them strategically throughout the house. I never knew, until today, that she also kept journals filled with these quotes and messages. I've decided to share the wonderful and inspiring entries from her journals with you. I hope you enjoy reading them and that they bring you inspiration or teach you something new. I'll be posting one page at a time, so I hope you'll keep checking back for more.
