🌸 Reflections from Mom’s Journals — Entry #8
When I came across my beautiful mom’s list of “I Am” statements,
I found myself running my hand over the page, imagining her
voice as she wrote and spoke each word. These were more than affirmations—
they were declarations of identity, intention, and belief.
Here’s what she wrote:
I am LOVE, I am PEACE, I am JOY, I am PROSPERITY,
I am FREEDOM, I am HEALTH, I am TALENTED,
I am CREATIVE, I am KIND, I am HAPPY, I am GENEROUS,
I am THOUGHTFUL, I am BEAUTIFUL, I am ENERGY,
I am INTUITIVE, I am POWERFUL, I am PAIN-FREE,
I am WISE, I am ABUNDANCE, I am POSITIVE,
I am MOTIVATED, I am FORGIVENESS,
I am UNSTOPPABLE, I am HEALED, I am LIGHT,
I am DESERVING, I am COMPASSION, I am GRATEFUL,
I am FOCUSED, I am CHOSEN, I am LOYAL,
I am TRUSTWORTHY, I am CALM, I am PATIENT.
Biblical Roots of "I Am"
The phrase “I Am” carries deep spiritual significance. In the Christian tradition, the Gospel of John highlights seven powerful “I Am” statements spoken by Jesus:
“I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35, 41, 48, 51)
“I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12)
“I am the door of the sheep.” (John 10:7, 9)
“I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25)
“I am the good shepherd.” (John 10:11, 14)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
“I am the true vine.” (John 15:1, 5)
Isaiah also references God's identity using similar language, but John’s Gospel contains the most well-known examples in today’s Christian teachings.
Across Faiths and Philosophies:
Other religions and spiritual philosophies also honor the sacredness of the “I Am”:
Judaism: In Exodus 3:14, God reveals His name to Moses: “I AM WHO I AM.” This divine name—“Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh”—is foundational in Judaism, reflecting God's eternal and self-existent nature.
Baháʼí Faith: Writings from the Báb and other key figures reference “I Am” as part of divine revelation.
Hinduism: While not identical in wording, Hindu scriptures express similar truths. The Mahavakyas (great sayings) reflect universal consciousness. Sage Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj taught that “I Am” is a pure awareness of being—an insight into the Absolute.
A Little Comic Relief:
Of course, I can’t write a post about “I Am” statements without giving a nod to one of the greats:
Stuart Smalley from Saturday Night Live Created by comedian Al Franken,
Stuart reminded us all, week after week:
“I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!”
(Admittedly, besides Goat Boy, Stuart Smalley ranks in my top five favorite SNL characters.)
💋✨ Until next time... keep loving & living your best life!💋✨
Wishing you Love, Light & Sparkles!
