Stop Scrolling and Start Living: Life’s Not Meant to Be Watched Through a Screen

Stop Scrolling and Start Living: Life’s Not Meant to Be Watched Through a Screen

Let’s just call it like it is: we are chronically distracted!

Like, “I picked up my phone to check the weather and now it’s 42 minutes later and I’m watching a raccoon eat birdseed in slow motion” level distracted.

But here’s the kicker—while we’re out here double-tapping strangers’ brunch pics and Googling “Do penguins have knees?” (they do, in case you’re still wondering), life is zipping past us like a toddler with a Sharpie. Or worse—a silent but deadly (SBD) fart that spreads through the room faster than lightning. You get the idea.

I’m not here to shame anyone. I’ve personally lost entire afternoons to online shopping for glitter boots I’ll never wear and will still defend that decision. But I am here to remind you: this is your one and only, wild and sparkly life. And it’s happening right now.

There’s no dress rehearsal. No “take two.” No magical app that lets you rewind to your kid’s first solo in the school play because you were busy texting your group chat about dinner (oops).

Life doesn’t wait.
Sunsets fade.
Cake gets eaten.
Hugs end.

Memories aren’t made with your face in your phone.
They’re made when you laugh until you snort, dance like it’s the 8th-grade prom, or cry at the sight of your best friend walking in with coffee and snacks—unannounced, like the hero they are.

Be There—Like, Really There

Put your phone down. (Yes, I said it. Gently, but firmly.)

Look around.
Engage.
Ask someone how they’re really doing.
Tell your story. Listen to theirs.
Notice the freckles on your daughter’s nose.
Smell the rain.
Eat the damn ice cream before it melts.

We’re all so busy trying to document our lives that we forget to actually live them. But here’s the truth: no one remembers your highlight reel—they remember how you made them feel.

Not the filtered version of your life, but the real, unfiltered, messy, laugh-until-you-pee version. The one where you showed up—quirks, chaos, and all.

Make the Memory

So go ahead—
Take the trip.
Wear the sequins to the grocery store.
Build the blanket fort.
Jump in the lake.
Start the sing-along.
Dance barefoot in your living room (unless, of course, you’re currently battling a scorpion infestation like I am… in which case, shoes on, friend. Shoes. On.)

Just do the things that feel like magic.

Because one day, you’ll look back. And I promise—you won’t wish you spent more time scrolling.
You’ll wish you soaked it all in. Every weird, wonderful, real-life moment.

Be here now. Make the memory.
Live the glittery, glorious, unfiltered moment.

You deserve that.
We all do.

💋✨Until next time, keep shining, loving & living your best life!

🌸Wishing you Love, Light & Sparkles!

🌸 Carrie

🌸Mom's Journals, entry #1

My dad recently found two journals that belonged to my mother and gifted them to me—what a treasure!  S he often wrote positive messages and quotes on index cards and placed them strategically throughout the house. I never knew, until today, that she also kept journals filled with these quotes and messages. I've decided to share the wonderful and inspiring entries from her journals with you. I hope you enjoy reading them and that they bring you inspiration or teach you something new. I'll be posting one page at a time, so I hope you'll keep checking back for more. Wishing you Love, Light & Sparkles, 🌸 Carrie “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough…”  - Albert Einstein “ The difference between genius and stupidity is - genius has limits ” “Don’t cry because it’s over - Smile because it happened.” - Dr. Seuss “ Don't waste your time on explanations - people only hear what they want to ” “ T T F N - Ta ta for now ”  - Tigger “The tyrant wi...

🌸Mom's Journals, entry #2

Reflections from My Mom’s Journals, post #2 “There is no dollar sign on peace of mind.”   - Elin Hilderbrand  "The punishment of every disordered mind is its own disorder."   - St. Augustine                                                                      "Happiness is a choice. Peace is a state of mind. Both are free.”   - Amy Leigh Mercree "We never get what we want — we get what we are.   - Doran Cooks They’re all great quotes! I especially like number three: "Happiness is a choice. Peace is a state of mind. Both are free." So oft en, I find myself thinking, "I would be happy if only XYZ would happen," or "If I could just acquire XYZ...
