Bless Their Synthetic Hearts: A Southern Take on the Amazon Prime Series
"Humans”
Well, butter my biscuit and call me high-tech—y’all, I just finished bingeing Humanson Prime, and let me tell you… I’ve got more questions than a Baptist grandma at a tattoo parlor.
For starters, this show ain’t just about robots vacuuming your floors and frying your eggs sunny-side up. Nope.
These “Synths” look just like us—only with better posture and less complaining about Mondays. Honey, if I had
one of these beauties in my kitchen, I’d finally get around to alphabetizing my spice rack instead of pretending
paprika belongs in the “miscellaneous” category. But don’t get too cozy, darlin’. Things go sideways faster than a greased pig at the county fair. These Synths
start catching feelings, asking the big ol’ “what does it mean to be human?” questions.
(Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out why Buc-ee’s sells beaver nuggets in bulk.)
What I love most is how the show sneaks up on ya. One minute, you’re sipping sweet tea, thinking it’s just a
sci-fi soap opera, and the next you’re questioning your entire relationship with Alexa. If my Echo ever blinks
at me with those piercing Synth eyes, I’m grabbing my purse and heading for the hills.
So here’s the verdict: Humans is a juicy gumbo of sci-fi, family drama, and good old-fashioned existential dread. It’ll make you laugh,
make you sweat, and maybe even make you unplug your toaster… just in case it starts dreaming about freedom.
Bless their synthetic hearts, those robots sure do know how to stir up trouble.
I have to admit that since watching this little series, I’ve been laying awake at night wondering just how true this “fiction” show could become in the very near future.
Things that make you go hhuuummmmm… (Go on, sing along, my best friend Larry…) Love that little tune!

Now, before you dive in, let me introduce you to the cast of characters. Pretty sure I left some out, but honey, I did my best! Have to say the most adorable synth was Odi.I just wanted to pack him up and bring his cuteness home with me.
The “Main Squeeze” aka The Hawkins Family
Laura Hawkins (Katherine Parkinson): The matriarch of the family and an attorney who turns detective to find the truth.
Joe Hawkins (Tom Goodman-Hill): Laura's husband. Bless his heart, he tries.
Mattie Hawkins (Lucy Carless): The Hawkins' eldest daughter. Smart as a whip and has a knack for hacking.
Toby Hawkins (Theo Stevenson): The Hawkins' son. Your average, hormone-driven teenage boy.
Sophie Hawkins (Pixie Davies): The youngest Hawkins child. Easily attached to the new domestic synth.
The Elster Synths
These are the special, conscious synths created by the scientist David Elster. They're the whole reason we're in this mess!
Mia / Anita (Gemma Chan): The first of the conscious synths. After being captured, her memory was wiped and she was sold to the Hawkins family as the domestic synth Anita.
Leo Elster (Colin Morgan): The son of David Elster. He’s a human-synth hybrid who spends the series trying to reunite his special Synth family.
Max Elster (Ivanno Jeremiah): Max is a conscious synth who acts as Leo's most loyal and devoted companion.
Niska Elster (Emily Berrington): A conscious synth with a violent streak who was sold into a brothel. She has a deep resentment toward humans but eventually starts to care.
Fred Elster (Sope Dirisu): The older brother of the conscious synths who is captured and studied by the AI researcher Professor Hobb.
Other Key Players & Synths
Odi (Will Tudor): An older, slightly malfunctioning synth who acts as a loyal companion to Dr. Millican after the doctor's original synth, V, is taken away.
Dr. George Millican (William Hurt): An aging scientist who treats his synth, Odi, like family.
DI Karen Voss (Ruth Bradley): A detective investigating conscious synths who is secretly a conscious synth herself, created by David Elster as a copy of his deceased wife.
DS Pete Drummond (Neil Maskell): A detective working with Karen Voss, struggling with the growing role of Synths in society.
Professor Edwin Hobb (Danny Webb): An artificial intelligence researcher who is fascinated by the possibility of conscious synths and works to track the originals.
Hester (Sonya Cassidy): A synth who becomes self-aware after a consciousness program is released. She is rescued by Leo and Max but exhibits disturbing, violent behavior. (aka psycho chick!)
