The Quiet Power of Choosing Kindness

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day   —  but kindness is never random.

It’s a choice. A pause.  A moment of seeing someone fully.

A smile offered freely.  A door held open.

A text sent just because.

Small acts ripple farther than we’ll ever know.

So be generous with gentleness today.

The world could use your light. 🌎💫

Random Acts of Kindness Day: Small Gestures, Big Ripples

Random Acts of Kindness Day is a gentle reminder that goodness doesn’t have to be grand to matter.

It doesn’t require a cape, a credit card, or a perfectly curated moment. Kindness lives in the small things — the ordinary, everyday choices that quietly change someone’s day.

A smile held a second longer.
A door opened without being asked.
A text sent just to say, “Thinking of you.”

These moments don’t make headlines, but they make hearts lighter.

What Is Random Acts of Kindness Day?

Random Acts of Kindness Day is observed annually on February 17 and encourages people to practice kindness toward others — especially in unexpected ways.

The idea is simple: small acts of generosity can create a ripple effect, spreading positivity far beyond the original moment.

Kindness doesn’t need permission. It doesn’t need a holiday.
But having a day dedicated to it gives us a beautiful nudge to slow down and lead with compassion.

Kindness Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

Here are a few easy, meaningful ways to participate:

None of these take much time. All of them matter.

The Quiet Power of Kindness

Kindness is one of the few things that multiplies when shared.

You never really know what someone is carrying. A single thoughtful gesture can soften a hard day, restore hope, or remind someone they’re not alone. And often, the person receiving kindness goes on to pass it forward.

That’s how change happens — not all at once, but person by person.

A Gentle Reminder

You don’t have to do everything.
You don’t have to fix the world.

Just be kind where you are.

That’s enough.

Message to Readers

Thank you for being here. May today — and every day — offer you chances to choose kindness, speak gently, and move through the world with a little more heart.

My hope is that you don’t save all your acts of kindness for one special day, but instead offer small pieces of yourself daily to help make this world a softer, kinder place.

I think back to when I was younger and would argue just to prove my point — because obviously I was always right and everyone else simply needed to see the error of their ways. (Insert dramatic eye roll here.)

Funny how age and maturity have a way of humbling us, if we let them. Looking back, I realize that more often than not, I didn’t even have the full picture of the story I was so fiercely defending.

My mom used to stop me mid-rant and ask, “Do you want to be right, or do you want to be kind?”

That question has stayed with me.

So the next time you find yourself hashing it out over something that probably doesn’t really matter anyway, pause and ask yourself the same thing: Do you want to be right, or do you want to be kind?

I hope you’ll choose kind — every time.

Be blessed.

Here’s a little trick I’ve learned: whenever something feels impossible , it’s usually just my brain doing its best dramatic performance, like it is auditioning for a soap opera. You know the type—“ Cue the violins, this project is clearly the end of me! ” But let’s be honest, most “impossible” things are just… big. Too big to swallow whole. 🌸Mom's Journals, entry #1

My dad recently found two journals that belonged to my mother and gifted them to me—what a treasure!  S he often wrote positive messages and quotes on index cards and placed them strategically throughout the house. I never knew, until today, that she also kept journals filled with these quotes and messages. I've decided to share the wonderful and inspiring entries from her journals with you. I hope you enjoy reading them and that they bring you inspiration or teach you something new. I'll be posting one page at a time, so I hope you'll keep checking back for more.
