August 8th is International Cat Day — the one day each year cats graciously

permit us to celebrate them... as if they haven't already spent the other

364 days running the household. 😹

Let's be honest: cats don't really have owners. They have staff.

They're equal parts fluffy therapist, professional nap consultant, tiny house tiger,

expert sunbeam enthusiast, and occasional chaos coordinator. One minute they're

demanding attention, and the next they're deeply offended that you actually gave

it to them. 💁‍♀️🐈

Humans and cats have been companions for thousands of years. Archaeologists

discovered evidence of a cat buried alongside a human on the Mediterranean

island of Cyprus about 9,500 years ago, suggesting that people and cats were

already forming close relationships long before the rise of ancient Egypt.

Cats became especially important in ancient Egypt, where they helped protect food

supplies by hunting rodents and snakes. Egyptians admired cats so much that they

appeared in artwork, stories, and even religious traditions. One of the oldest known

named cats in history was an Egyptian cat called Nedjem, whose name translates

roughly to "sweet" or "pleasant."

Today, scientists estimate there are hundreds of millions of domestic cats living

around the world, making them one of humanity's most popular companion animals.

Despite thousands of years of living beside us, cats have retained many of the

instincts of their wild ancestors—from stalking toys to pouncing on absolutely

nothing at 3:00 in the morning.

But somehow, with every head bump, purr, slow blink, biscuit-making session,

and warm lap cuddle, they manage to completely steal our hearts.

Today we're celebrating the whiskers, the purrs, the toe beans, the zoomies,

and the unconditional companionship our feline friends bring into our lives.

Whether your cat is a majestic queen, a mischievous troublemaker, a senior

snoozer, or a rescue who found their forever home, give them an extra treat,
