Reflections from My Mom’s Journals, post #2

“There is no dollar sign on peace of mind.”  -Elin Hilderbrand

"The punishment of every disordered mind is its own disorder."  -St. Augustine

"Happiness is a choice. Peace is a state of mind. Both are free.”  -Amy Leigh Mercree

"We never get what we want — we get what we are.  -Doran Cooks

They’re all great quotes! I especially like number three:
"Happiness is a choice. Peace is a state of mind. Both are free."

So often, I find myself thinking, "I would be happy if only XYZ would happen," or "If I could just acquire XYZ, I could be happy. Both of those thoughts are shallow and a sign of someone living in the ego state of mind.

In truth, I can decide — the moment my feet hit the floor in the morning —

that I will be happy. I will not let circumstances or other people’s drama affect my

choice to be happy. Getting it is the easy part — now comes the implementation!

Number two had me thinking for a while as I tried to fully grasp its meaning.

Here are a few thoughts:

The quote — "The punishment of every disordered mind is its own disorder." — is attributed to St. Augustine, a philosopher and theologian.

It essentially means that a chaotic or troubled mind creates its own suffering.

The disorder is the punishment. Rather than needing external consequences,

the internal state of turmoil, confusion, or lack of harmony is itself a form of suffering.

A person with a disordered mind (conflicted, anxious, immoral, or misaligned)

experiences pain not because something external punishes them, but because their

own state of mind is already a kind of torment. My friend Melissa is an LPC and LMFT,

and I can almost hear her in the background saying, “Hungry Ghost!"

The “hungry ghost” refers to someone with excessive greed, attachment to the past,

self-absorption, and the inability to achieve true contentment. It’s a powerful metaphor

for the insatiable desires and lack of fulfillment that can affect all of us at times.

So there are some deep thoughts for the day. I hope they cause you to pause, reflect,

and feel grateful to be living your life.

Until next time... keep loving & living your best life!

🌸Wishing you Love, Light & Sparkles!

🌸 Carrie

🔥 Fan the Flames Reflections from My Mom’s Journals, post #5 “Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.” — Rumi I love this quote! And I love the little doodles in my mom’s journals , too. She was so creative, so artistic, and so full of joy. I miss her more than words can ever express. What I wouldn’t give for just one more day with her—sitting beside me in her physical form, or as she so playfully called it, her “ earth suit .” ✨ A Small Quote with Mighty Meaning I’m learning how to truly live out the wisdom packed into this small but powerful quote: “Seek those who fan your flames.” Why did I spend so much time with people who only wanted to dim my light—much less fan it? 💡 Choose the Right People Life is short. So incredibly precious. There’s no time to waste on people who don’t support your passion, your purpose, or your joy. 🔥 There’s no space for “ flame-blowers ” when you were born to burn bright. So light that sucker up—and keep it on high! ❤️ In Memory ...

🌸 Reflections from Mom’s Journals — Entry #16 🌸 You can’t give away what you don’t have. (often attributed to Wayne Dyer ) 🌸 Be the kind of person that leaves a mark, not a scar. (often attributed to Jay Shetty , original origin is unknown) 🌸 Love is not what you say, it's what you do. - John Hagee 🌸 No one knows enough to be a pessimist. (often attributed to Wayne Dyer) 💗 Love Isn’t What You Say—It’s What You Do Let’s have some real talk about love. Not the mushy Hallmark kind or the kind that shows up conveniently after someone screws up and needs to “smooth things over.” I’m talking about real love—the kind that goes beyond words and dives into action. We’ve all heard those three little words—“I love you.” They’re tossed around like confetti at a New Year’s Eve party. But how often do we stop and ask: What do those words actually mean? Spoiler alert: It’s not always what it seems. Sometimes people say “I love you” out of habit. Sometimes they say it to manipulate,...

( widely attributed to Billy Joel ) 🌸  Forever is composed of NOWS! —Emily Dickenson 💭 Examine the Impossible  Examine what I believe to be impossible… then change my beliefs. Here’s a little trick I’ve learned: whenever something feels impossible , it’s usually just my brain doing its best dramatic performance, like it is auditioning for a soap opera. You know the type—“ Cue the violins, this project is clearly the end of me! ” But let’s be honest, most “impossible” things are just… big. Too big to swallow whole. So instead of brushing it off ( or chasing the ...
