🌸Reflections from My Mom’s Journals, post #3

🧠 "People Do Not Attract What They Want, But Who They Are"
Circumstances don’t shape us so much as they reveal us.  -James Allen

Life doesn't shape you—it shows you who you are.

In tough times, we often think life is doing something to us. But in truth, it's revealing something within us. Whether it's our mindset, values, relationships, or habits—life holds up a mirror.   In my own life, especially during the darkest times, I’ve discovered the true character of those I chose to surround myself with and call friends. Surprisingly—or perhaps not—after each difficult season, my circle has grown smaller.

💡 Mindset First, Change Second

"You cannot change your surroundings while continuing to think the same way that brought you here."   So many of us dream of a different life—more peace, better health, stronger relationships. But we don’t realize that we carry the same mental baggage into every new chapter.  Ernest Hemingway put it well: “You can't get away from yourself by moving from one place to another.”  You can relocate, switch jobs, or surround yourself with new people. But if your thoughts, self-talk, and emotional wounds remain untouched, your experience will likely stay the same.

🧘‍♀️ A Healthy Mind Builds a Healthy Life

You can never get a healthy body without a healthy mindset.  Everything begins in the mind. If your thoughts are anxious, self-critical, or defeated, how can you expect your actions to be uplifting or your body to thrive?  Thoughts in the mind determine your course, steering your life for better or worse.  Change your thoughts—change your life. It sounds simple, but it takes daily intention and awareness.

🪞 Pain as a Teacher

If you dwell on thoughts that are petty and unkind, pain will follow.  It’s easy to blame circumstances, but pain often follows a pattern: repeated thoughts that go unchecked. When we nurse grudges, envy others, or replay harsh words in our minds, we become our own captors.  Pain is not always punishment—it can be a messenger. One that invites us to ask: What am I thinking that’s creating this suffering?

🧭 Examining Your Beliefs

Examine your beliefs carefully—especially before you defend them.  If you're stuck in a loop, start here. Most of us have beliefs passed down from family, culture, or early experiences—beliefs we never chose, but now live by.

To grow, we must question:

  • Where did this belief come from?

  • Is it serving me?

  • Who would I be without it?

Real change doesn't begin in the world. It begins within.

💋✨Until next time, keep shining, loving & living your best life!

🌸Wishing you Love, Light & Sparkles!

  1. I love the part where you said "You can never get a healthy body without a healthy mindset. Everything begins in the mind. THAT IS PROFOUND! So true that it sounds simple... it is in theory simple, but the daily follow through is fairly difficult because there CAN BE 1001 things that get in the way IF WE LET THEM, but we can't, because we were born to shine. So, 1001 things must wait.... we MUST PUT US FIRST. WE MUST HEAL....and we must, must, must, must, change in the correct way so that others can follow suit. I love this so very much. I am going shopping for a simple healing chair. Maybe even in my own house...looking for somewhere I can sit and think about all that I am, have been and want to be, and heal. 🌸Mom's Journals, entry #1

My dad recently found two journals that belonged to my mother and gifted them to me—what a treasure!  S he often wrote positive messages and quotes on index cards and placed them strategically throughout the house. I never knew, until today, that she also kept journals filled with these quotes and messages. I've decided to share the wonderful and inspiring entries from her journals with you.
