🌸 Reflections from Mom’s Journals — Entry #7

"You will be too much for some people. Those aren’t your people!"

I’ve often heard the phrase, “You are so extra!” I must get that fabulous trait from Mommy Dearest!

The picture above is one my mom doodled on—actually a woman’s face made from hundreds of tiny dots.

I often wonder how long it took her to create something like that.

What was she thinking as she placed each dot? Was she at peace, lost in thought, or simply playing with creativity?

When I see beautiful art, I’m always curious about the artist’s emotional state during its creation.

Were they feeling joyful? Focused? In flow?

Personally, I’ve never created anything beautiful while in a bitter or anxious state.

It makes me wonder:

how many beautiful things have I missed out on bringing into the world simply

because I chose to stay in a negative mindset?

My mom used to say that most things in life come down to a simple choice.

When I was upset, I’d announce it loudly: “I am so aggravated and mad!”

She would almost always reply with a calm and slightly cheeky,

“Well, you can get glad in the same shoes you got mad in.”

Of course, during my teenage years, that would drive me crazy. I’d roll my eyes and walk away. But now?

That memory makes me smile. Because she was right.

We often hold onto bad moods far longer than necessary—wearing them like a badge instead of

making a decision to let go.

Some Suggestions to Stay in a Good Frame of Mind

Maintaining a positive mindset doesn’t mean ignoring problems—it means choosing peace in spite of them. Here are a few simple practices that help:

1. Pause and Breathe

When emotions rise, take a few deep breaths. Centering yourself can help you respond thoughtfully

instead of reacting impulsively.

2. Flip the Script

Ask yourself: “Is this thought helping or hurting me?” If it’s the latter, replace it with something constructive.

3. Protect Your Peace

Surround yourself with people who uplift you—not those who constantly drain your energy.

Remember: You will be too much for some people. Those aren’t your people.

4. Create Something

Journal. Doodle. Bake. Organize a drawer. Creating—even in small ways—can shift your mood dramatically.

5. Remember the Wisdom

When you feel yourself slipping into frustration, try hearing my mom’s voice in your head:
You can get glad in the same shoes you got mad in.”
Then try it.

Until next time... keep loving & living your best life!

🌸Wishing you Love, Light & Sparkles!

🌸 Carrie

  1. How many times did I hear Granny say those exact words. I would completely shut them out, I thought. And how many times I said them to your cousins. I am sure they also shut them out, right.

  2. I can't count the number of times she said that! I love it so much that when I feel like I am going to say that now, I sometimes just start laughing thinking about what her reply would be.

🌸 Reflections from Mom’s Journals — Entry #19 🌸 Abundance flows when we love what we are doing. 🌸  Examine what I believe to be impossible… then change my beliefs. 🌸  Let my loving soul guide my behavior.  🌸  Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.  —Mark Twain 🌸  If your not doing what you love, you are wasting your time. Here’s a little trick I’ve learned: whenever something feels impossible , it’s usually just my brain doing its best dramatic performance, like it is auditioning for a soap opera. You know the type—“ Cue the violins, this project is clearly the end of me! ” But let’s be honest, most “impossible” things are just… big. Too big to swallow whole. So instead of brushing it off ( or chasing the ...

🌸 Mom's Journals, entry #5

🔥 Fan the Flames Reflections from My Mom’s Journals, post #5 “Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.” — Rumi I love this quote! And I love the little doodles in my mom’s journals , too. She was so creative, so artistic, and so full of joy. I miss her more than words can ever express. What I wouldn’t give for just one more day with her—sitting beside me in her physical form, or as she so playfully called it, her “ earth suit .” ✨ A Small Quote with Mighty Meaning I’m learning how to truly live out the wisdom packed into this small but powerful quote: “Seek those who fan your flames.” Why did I spend so much time with people who only wanted to dim my light—much less fan it? 💡 Choose the Right People Life is short. So incredibly precious. There’s no time to waste on people who don’t support your passion, your purpose, or your joy. 🔥 There’s no space for “ flame-blowers ” when you were born to burn bright. So light that sucker up—and keep it on high! ❤️ In Memory ...
